Our goal is to promote the professional standards/training, education of owners, security officers, private patrol  operator managers (PPOM), private patrol operators (PPO) private investigator employee (PIE), private investigator (PI), private patrol company (PPC) Instructors, and the training of Security Guards, and dispatchers. To include any security  professional that is certified by New  Mexico Regulation and License Division (RLD) for the improvement and development of security capabilities relating to physical security, technology, and training of Security Officers for securing, processing information or technology.

History of NMPSA:

  • July 2015- Seven New Mexico security and security training companies were appointed as an ad hoc study group by NMRLD to rewrite training curricula for Level 1, 2 and 3 security guards
  • Aug 2016- NMRLD PI Board Administrator announced support for establishment of a formal security association independent of NMRLD
  • Sept 2016- Association by-laws were created
  • Dec 2016- Bylaws were approved
  • Apr 2017- Association was filed as a 5013c non-profit with the State of New Mexico
  • May 2017- New Mexico Private Security Association was officially founded

 

NMPSA current efforts:

  • Re-write of NMSA 61-27B inclusive of, but not limited to, extensive training standards for school security personnel, pending approval in the 2019 Legislative session
  • Completed re-write of Title 16 Chapter 48 as of November 2018
  • Introduced SM117 classifying security officers as first responders, pending 2019 Legislative approval

 

NMPSA on-going efforts:

  • Re-branding of the security industry in NM
  • Education of NM private businesses regarding NM security industry statutes and rules
  • Standardization of NM Security Officer training
  • Standardization of NM Security Officer pay
  • Continued efforts with regard to monitoring of national security standards
  • Continued efforts with regard to standardization of NM security standards as aligned with national best practices
  • Assisting RLD in developing progressive policy for training, certifying and licensing of Private Investigators
